Bike
When buying a motorbike, many of the same rules apply as when buying a car; check carefully to ensure that the details tally across V5, insurance and service documentation, to make sure you’re buying from the registered owner. Check for the address the car is registered to, and ensure that that’s where you’re buying from.
It’s a good idea to carry out an HPI check; this will check for outstanding finance, and give an idea of the vehicles history, such as whether it’s been stolen / recovered, or involved in an accident.
Check the bike over mechanically; at the very least, take a mechanically minded friend with you; even better would be to get a mechanical inspection from the AA or a similar organization. This, of course, is dependant on the value of the bike - such an inspection costs in the region of £200. Also, take the bike for a test ride, just to get an idea of how it drives.
In this category we’ve added the sites of companies selling bikes, as well as sites offering advice on buying motorbikes, and everything else you’ll need to buy your motorbike with confidence.
