Car
There are three types of car insurance in the UK; third-party only insurance, third party fire and theft car insurance, and fully comprehensive insurance.
Third party only insurance covers the insured person for injury to other people, or damage to other peoples’ property. No protection is given to the insured person or their car.
Third part, fire and theft (also known as TPFT) provides the same level of cover as third party only, but also provides cover to the insured person if their car is involved in a fire, or if it is stolen.
Comprehensive car insurances covers the insured against damage to themselves and their own property, as well as that of other people. Insurers insist on the use of fully comprehensive insurance if the value of the vehicle is around £5,000 or more.
There are many factors which can affect the cost of car insurance; these vary in importance from insurer to insurer, and include age of the driver, number of years “No-claims bonus”, sex (women’s insurance generally being cheaper), value of the vehicle, voluntary excess, number of years driving experience, and many more.
