Car
Whether looking for transport while abroad, or in the UK, car hire is the ideal choice, and for those who don’t use a car on a daily basis, it can prove much cheaper to hire a car as and when needed.
For those who use their car only for occasional, long journeys, car hire will work out much cheaper. The never-ending costs associated with owning a car, such as MOT, servicing, mechanical / electrical breakdown, part replacement as a result of wear and tear, and the yearly insurance cost, are all avoided, being swapped for the cost of hiring the car, and a one-off insurance charge (with possibly a collision damage waver in addition).
You’ll also get a generally very new car each time you hire. New cars tend to depreciate very quickly, meaning that you wont get back anywhere near what you paid for the vehicle if you try to sell it; with a new car you’ll also be paying the costs for wear and tear on the vehicle, although most manufacturers are now offering free servicing for up to 5 years.
Car hire does have its negative points; you’ll get charged an excess for damage to the car unless you pay a collision waiver damage, which increases the costs of hiring. Hire cars also tend to be a bit thrashed.Although car hire works out cheaper for those who don’t drive regularly, the more often you hire a car, the quicker it would have been cheaper to have owned a car.
